At The Nurture Room, Kathy offers private 1:1 counselling sessions at reasonable rates, to individuals of all ages.
The sessions can help to reduce anxiety, improve mood, increase confidence and self-esteem, improve relationships and generally help clients to make sense of their feelings.
The sessions take place in comfortable and friendly surroundings which clients refer to as 'cosy'.
The therapeutic journey is a shared process between Kathy and the client, with the client being the driving force all the way to a sense of better emotional wellbeing.
All sessions are relaxed, comfortable, discreet and usually 1:1, although some younger clients feel the need to have a parent present.
The sessions are talk-based; some with an element of writing (using worksheets) and often homework, which may, for example, comprise of completing journals, self-reflection, personal observations, etc.
Every care is taken to make the client feel in control and at ease throughout their journey.
Cognitive behavioural therapy
A therapy that involves breaking issues into thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and behaviours. The therapist and client work together to break toxic cycles. It is used to address issues such as anxiety, obsessive behaviour and depression.
Transactional analysis psychotherapy
A talking therapy that helps you gain an understanding of the effect that past relationships and experiences have had on your current mindset and how, in turn, that affects your behaviour and attitude to those around you, which elicits particular responses from them. What you learn about yourself helps you to improve your relationships.
Solution focused therapy
A talking therapy that is aimed at bringing a positive approach to the way you deal with any situation, by focusing on the end goal rather than the problem. Clients are supported to visualise their preferred futures and to work out the steps they need to take to bring about positive outcomes.

I'm Kathy Thompson. I have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and was formerly a foster carer and Family Worker. I have completed a Certificate in Therapeutic Fostering and have achieved qualifications in CBT, covering a variety of mental health conditions. I have received training in TA Psychotherapy, ASD, ADHD, PDA, child development, Solution Focused therapy, the brain and behaviour, and many other subjects relating to mental health and existential wellbeing.
The Nurture Room was officially born in 2013, when I began providing an emotional well-being service to a local primary school, following a two year period of volunteering my services there. I have now worked in a number of schools as a Wellbeing Mentor.

The Nurture Room now provides 1:1 therapy for all age groups. The initial consultation is free of charge, so if you are interested in working on your (or your child's) negative moods, please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
